About: Mark Small
Mark Small is a musician and journalist from the Boston area. He attended Berklee College of Music and earned his B.M. from New England Conservatory of Music and M.M from California State University, both in classical guitar. He served from 1992 to October 2018 as the editor of Berklee today magazine and produced 83 issues covering an array of musicians a music-related topics from across the musical spectrum. As a freelance writer he has contributed to Classical Guitar, Guitar Player, Acoustic Guitar, DownBeat, and other magazines.
As a classical guitarist, Small has performed in recitals throughout the country and appeared on three internationally TV and radio broadcasts with the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square in Utah. He released six CDs with the Small-Torres Guitar Duo, one with the Small-Clemente Duo, and one solo album. Mel Bay Publications and Clearnote Publications have published his original compositions and arrangements. The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet commissioned him to arrange Pat Metheny’s “Letter from Home” and recorded it for their Grammy-winning album Guitar Heroes.
